Portuguese regional olive variety, which can be found throughout the country, focusing on regions of Alentejo. It is a variety of medium vigor, but that easily adapts to poor soils, maturation is not tolerant to cold or frost and high temperature variations. The rooting capacity is high, both by cutting and by semi-hardwood cuttings with periodic watering or nebulization. The start of production is premature.
The flowering season is early and pollen has a high germination capacity. It is a variety with medium resistance to plagues and diseases such as the most common, peacock-eye, leprosy or olive fly, however is a variety that maintaining the organoleptic characteristics, can be kept for longer.
Productivity is alternated medium-high, and ripening season is early, with low resistance to fruit drop when in maturation which facilitates mechanized harvesting. The oil yield is medium and the separation of flesh and kernel is difficult.
Obtained from not fully ripe fruit, harvested in changing from green to purplish black, and the bitter removed by treatment with a solution of sodium chloride (salt) and water.
